Last Stop in Utah

We have been in Utah for a month, and could easily stay longer. It’s a beautiful state. Our current “digs” are at Painted Hills RV Resort, another commercial parking lot.

There are pretty hills in the background in this little town of Parowan, Utah.

The sites have these multicolored stones, pretty but very lumpy. Matey doesn’t like to walk on them.

We’ve taken things easy here, doing some shopping and letting Matey rest.

But we did drive up to Cedar Breaks National Monument. We took another scenic highway, this one Utah 143.

Of course we soon came to hills and rocks.

One of the slogans of this state is “Utah Rocks”. I get it.

We had plenty of time to look around as we came up behind a line of traffic led by a cement truck…

that was struggling up this hill.

At this point we were a bit worried it wouldn’t make it.

But it did and we all made it to Brian Head, a mountain and its town and

ski resort.

We were getting high and there was snow up here.

Evidently they get lots of snow up here, judging by the poles to guide the plows.

We took the turn onto Utah 148 to go to Cedar Breaks National Monument. This road just opened for the season on May 15th.

And here we were, at another beautiful canyon full of red rocks.

This one is higher than Bryce, being at the top of the Grand Staircase.

It is not as extensive,

but certainly beautiful,

no matter which way you look into this giant bowl of a canyon.

I’m sure there are great hikes here, but the two shortest trails were still closed because of snow, ice and mud. Like I said, we could easily stay in Utah longer.

We drove out the south side of Cedar Breaks and descended down Utah 14 into Cedar City. This is an overlook near the top, looking southwest.

The highway goes down Cedar Canyon.

It’s not a designated scenic highway,

but we thought it was pretty scenic.

But that’s just Utah.

I’m glad Utah as much of Utah as Utah – and shared the pictures!! Really enjoyed seeing the canyon from your impressive height of over 10,000 ft !

Ha, ha! I think auto correct garbled your intent. Was that supposed to be you saw as much of Utah as you did? Anyway, thanks!

I wrote it that way to say I’m glad ‘you saw’ as much of Utah as ‘you saw’.
